The momentum carried over into Sunday for the University of West Georgia baseball team, as it completed a three-game sweep with a 7-2 victory over Miles at Cole Field.

The Wolves (3-0) benefited by a return of Jamie Sexton to the mound, where the sophomore went eight innings, giving up two runs and striking out four in his first action since mid-March 2012 to earn the victory.

The opening inning again provided the first UWG run, as Shaquille Jackson led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error before coming in to score on Dylan Coleman's single up the middle. West Georgia added another run in the second with Tyler Landmon's single scoring Harrison Walker for the 2-0 lead after two.

The big inning for the Wolves was the fifth, as they scored five runs to put the game away. The Golden Bears' defense supplied some help, committing three errors with UWG scoring the five runs on just three hits.

Evan Hester and Coleman had three hits each in the game, while Jackson scored a pair of runs.

After the three-game homestand, the Wolves now hit the road, traveling to Columbus State for a single game at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

West Georgia Tech Baseball

The Golden Knights (3-1) split Saturday's doubleheader with Vincennes, taking the first game, 5-2, before suffering their first loss of the year in a 3-1 decision in the nightcap.

Sean Watson and Blake Butcher led WGTC offensively with two hits each. Butcher added a pair of RBI to back Kyle Peals' complete-game effort in his first start for the Golden Knights. Peals gave up the two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in his seven innings of work.

In the second game, the Golden Knights couldn't get anything going offensively, and even with a solid effort, Chris Irwin took the loss while striking out 10.

Sunday's game was canceled due to rain, making the next contest the first road trip for WGTC, as it travels to face LaGrange College's junior-varsity team for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.

West Georgia Tech Softball

In their spring home debut, the Golden Knights (4-2) did not disappoint, picking up 2-0 and 4-3 wins in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Chattahoochee Valley Community College.

Blair Byrom was the difference in Game 1, as she hurled a complete game, one-hitter with four strikeouts for the win. Offensively, Casey Bucy and Kayla Castle had two hits each in the win.

The second game had a more dramatic finish, as WGTC had to hold off a late rally from CVCC to hold onto the one-run lead and earn the win.

Bucy went all seven in the circle, giving up just one earned run on seven hits. Katie Stone went 2-for-3 in the second game.

Chattahoochee Valley put up a run in the top of the seventh to make it 4-3, but the game ended on a fly ball to center.

The Golden Knights will return to the road when they travel to Darton College for a doubleheader on Thursday at 1 p.m.

West Georgia Tech Basketball

Both WGTC men's and women's basketball teams picked up big wins against Southern Crescent on Saturday night.

First the women came out with a resounding 93-27 victory for their fifth win in a row. The Golden Knights (10-14, 4-1) were led by Ta'Corria Mann's 30 points and eight rebounds, while Sha'Ron Forte added 21 points and Victoria Conner chipped in with 16.

The WGTC men (10-13, 3-3) used a 19-point effort from Ryan Jones in a 79-59 win to complete the sweep.

Jones shot 8-of-9 from the field and was perfect from 3-point range (1-of-1) and the free-throw line (2-of-2). He also pulled down eight rebounds. Alyja Hennings scored 16 points and also grabbed eight rebounds for WGTC.

Up next the men will travel to face Wallace State Community College on Wednesday at 9 p.m., while the next women's game is Friday at home against Georgia Northwestern with the men to follow.
