During his working years, he enjoyed farming and had also worked a number of years at Sewell Manufacturing Co. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Martin Earnest; sisters, Florence Walls, Ruth Crawford, and Mary Coalson; brothers, Forest Earnest, Silas Earnest, and Zellie Earnest.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Stamps Earnest; children, Roy D. Earnest and wife, Janet, of Marietta and Joan E. Moore and husband, Walter, of Mableton; grandchildren, Robert Moore, Robin Moore, Justin Earnest, Jason Earnest and Jeremy Earnest; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. from Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Miles Brown and Rev. Donald Voyles officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with American Legion Post #143 making the flag presentation.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
