The University of West Georgia baseball team busted out 14 hits in a 7-5 non-conference home win over in-state foe Columbus State on Wednesday afternoon, improving to 14-4 overall and stretching its win streak to seven games.

In a mid-week break from Gulf South Conference action, the Wolves scored a pair of runs in the first, third and fourth innings to build an early 6-2 advantage for UWG starter Jonathon Black (3-1).

The junior southpaw was chased by the Cougars (9-11) after yielding a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, allowing the four runs on eight hits with four walks and four strikeouts through five innings.

Cody Skinner tossed three innings of three-hit relief, allowing one run, while Alex Allen got the save with a perfect ninth.

Offensively, junior designated hitter T.J. Eifert went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while senior catcher Evan Hester (3-for-5, 2B, 2 runs, RBI), junior center fielder Shaquille Jackson (2-for-5, run, RBI) and sophomore third baseman Dustin Brantley (2-for-5, run, 2 RBI) also had multiple-hit efforts.

West Georgia returns to GSC action this weekend with a three-game series against West Alabama in Livingston, Ala., beginning with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and wrapping things up on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.
