The Wolves (15-7) scored six runs in the first inning, but would go scoreless in the other eight, allowing the Bobcats (13-7) to get back in the game, take the lead and eventually come out with the victory.
T.J. Eifert had a two-hit effort with a run scored for UWG, while Dustin Brantley, Galen Smith, Tyler Landmon, John Mark Rhodes and Jake Shirley each had an RBI.
After the Wolves jumped out to a 6-0 lead after half an inning, Georgia College and State scored four unearned runs in the second, added three runs in the fifth to take the lead and an insurance run in the eighth. Only four of the Bobcats’ nine runs were earned, as UWG committed six errors in the field.
UWG will host Gulf South Conference newcomer Shorter this weekend in a three-game series, starting with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
