A 2,600-acre controlled burn in Cleburne County, Ala., sent smoke drifting across western Carroll County late Thursday afternoon.

Carroll County Fire Chief Tracy Smith said there were “heavy pockets” of smoke in some areas of the county. He expected the smoke to be cleared out by Friday morning.

Smith said the smoke could cause breathing problems for some people with respiratory problems and that those people should stay inside until it lifted.

“We were getting a lot of calls about it,” he said.

We all thought the white southern smoke was signalling a new President for the Southern Baptist Conference.

By the way, how can 2,600 acres be a controlled burn and what fool gave permission to burn with this record low humiity(17%)and these high winds?
