Michael Cory Camp, 22, is expected to enter a blind plea on two counts of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and multiple traffic violations.
Authorities say Camp drove drunk and caused a crash that killed Winston residents Zachary Lewis Crenshaw and Matthew Ryan Miller, both who were 20 years old at the time of their death.
The head-on crash occurred May 2, 2011, around 2 a.m. on Post Road near Ephesus Church Road in Douglas County. A Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Camp, was traveling south on Post Road when the vehicle crossed the centerline in a curve and struck a northbound BMW. Crenshaw was identified as the driver and Miller the passenger of the BMW.
Camp, a Carrollton resident, was listed as a senior at the University of West Georgia at the time of the crash. Records show that he served as president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity for a few months. He was injured in the accident and was allowed out on $50,000 bond to seek treatment before being returned to the Douglas County Jail last August.
In a preliminary hearing, Douglas County Chief Assistant District Attorney Brian Fortner said that the investigation found that Camp had been to a Braves game on May 1, then had at least one drink at one restaurant and drinks at another bar that night. He had been asked to leave one bar and told management that he was not driving.
Fortner indicated that records show that Camp drank beer and shots of alcohol on that night. Camp is represented by Douglasville attorney Frank Winn.
A blind plea means no pre-determined sentence has been agreed upon. Vehicular homicide can carry up to a 15-year prison sentence.
