Senior trips

The Buchanan Seniors are going to Macon for the Cherry Blossom Festival on May 19 for one night and Nashville for a Show Trip April 26-30. Taking reservations for both. Call Rhonda at 770-646-2029.

Yearbook sale

This is the last chance to pre-order Haralson County High School yearbooks to be sure you have one at the end of the year! All orders will be taken the week of Feb. 1-5. $20 is necessary for a down payment and $40 will be due when the books come in May. For information call Mrs. Penny Hood 706-675-3656.

Tallapoosa Rec. sign ups

The Tallapoosa Rec. Dept is holding sign ups for baseball, soccer, softball and T-ball until Feb. 12 for soccer and Feb. 18 for the rest. Sign up at the Tallapoosa High School gym before and after the basketball games or Rayford Roberts Memorial Ballpark from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between Jan. 11 and Feb. 18. Baseball and softball players must pay a $50 in-city fee and a $55 out-of-city fee. Soccer is $40 for in-city residents and $45 for out-of-city residents. T-ball is $35. Farming Workshop

A Beginners School for Small Farmers: Too Much to Mow, What Do I Grow? will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 3 at Bartow County Extension Office, 320 West Cherokee Ave., Cartersville, Ga. The fee for the workshop is $10 (includes lunch). Registration deadline is Jan. 27!

Senior center

The Tallapoosa Senior Center, 160 Windom St., Tallapoosa is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They have exercise on Thursday at 10 a.m., health screenings on the second Friday of each month at 10 a.m.; Bingo on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. They have a hot meal each day at 11:30 a.m. This program is for all seniors 60 years old or older who live in Haralson County. Tallapoosa Library

The Tallapoosa Friends of the Library will begin hosting book sales every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit the Library at the old Tallapoosa High School. Books range in price from 25 cents to $3.

Haralson Rec. sign-ups

Baseball and soccer sign-ups will go through Feb. 12. at the Haralson County gym. T-Ball is $40 for 5 and 6 year olds, must be 5 by May 1. Baseball and softball for 7- and 8-year-olds, 9 and 10, 11 and 12 and 14 and 14 is $55. Soccer U6-U12 is $40.

Rook tournament

There will be a Rook tournament on Feb. 20 at the Ranburne Senior Center at 4 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Ranburne Band program. 2 man teams $10 per player/ $20 per team pre-regiser by Feb. 18, $15 per player/$30 per team registering at event. Golf tournament

There will be a golf tournament on March 6 at Pine Hill Country Club as a fundraiser for the Ranburne Band program. 4 man scramble. 1 p.m. shot gun start, 11:30 lunch ( included in entrance fee) $200 per team. Door prizes will be given out, and mulligans will be available for purchase. They are also doing hole sponsorships for $100 per hole. Team registration & Hole Sponsorship deadline is Monday, March 1st. You may turn in forms to Pine Hill Country Club or Ranburne High School Office.

Art show

There will be a juried art show and sale Feb. 6-13 at the Sewell Mill Facility in Bremen.

Walk-n-Talk Book Club

The Buchanan-Haralson Public Library Walk-n-Talk Book Club continues at 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Get in shape while you discuss your most recent literary adventure.

Veterans of Haralson County

The West Ga. Museum of Tallapoosa would like a copy of your military photo with your name, year of service, branch of service and any other information you would like to share, to be displayed at the museum. You can drop your photo off at the museum or mail to the museum at P.O. Box 725, Tallapoosa, GA 30176. After they copy your photo your original can be picked up anytime at the museum. They will be accepting photos until May 1, 2010. (The sooner the better) Come visit and see what they have done.

Senior Valentine’s Day Party

The Bremen Senior Center invites all seniors to join them in welcoming the White Family Singers at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Senior Center. The White Family is back by special request to delight audiences with their variety of musical talents.

Book Club

The Tallapoosa lunch bunch book club will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Tallapoosa Library reading room to discuss the book “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” The group meets the first Tuesday of each month in the library. New members are welcome. For more information, call Karen at 770-574-3124.

Relay for Life

Please plan to join Haralson County Relay for Life at all our meetings even if you do not necessarily have a team, but would simply like to be a part of our Relay. We always need fresh ideas! The meeting dates are as follows: Monday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.; Monday, March 1 at 7 p.m.; Monday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at the Haralson County Chamber of Commerce in Waco. Bremen Rec. registration

Bremen Parks & Recreation are taking registration for baseball, softball, T-ball, soccer and track. Deadline for registration is Jan. 29. Registrations taken after the deadline will be put on a waiting list with no guarantee of placement on a team. Blast Ball

Bremen Parks & Recreation is offering a fun and exciting program for children ages 3 and 4 Blast Ball will teach the pre-schooler the five basic principals used while playing T-Ball, baseball & softball; hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding. Parent must go through program with child to help develop skills for more advanced sports. On-line registration is not available for this program. Aerobics

Join us for “Body Sculpting” A head to toe workout using hand-held weights, stability balls and mat exercises designed to strengthen and tone your muscles. Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Beginning Feb. 2. Cost: $25 for 4 weeks. Held at the Rock Building, register at Bremen Parks & Recreation main office.

FOTL Host Pampered Chef

Buchanan’s Friends of the Library invite you to a Pampered Chef party fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1, meeting at the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library. Chef Rebecca Johnson will demonstrate wonderful Pampered Chef products while preparing recipes, which we will have a chance to sample, along with other refreshments. Please come and bring a friend.

Pottery Party

Sewell Mill is having a paint your own pottery party Thursday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $25 and includes your pottery, paint and instruction. We will have some snacks, but you can bring your own as well. We are taking reservations so sign up now for fun! Cash or check is accepted! Child care will not be provided.
